This page describes how Anansesem currently handles data. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer, and services for children carry obligations that differ by country (COPPA in the US, the Children’s Code in the UK, GDPR-K in the EU). Have it reviewed before relying on it as your published policy.

The short version

A parent signs in with their email address. Children do not have logins, are never asked for an email address or a phone number, and are not shown advertising. There are no third-party analytics or advertising trackers anywhere in the app.

What is collected

  • The parent’s email address, used to sign in. Sign-in is a one-time link sent to that address; there is no password to store or leak.
  • A child’s display name and age band, entered by a parent. A first name or nickname is enough. The app never asks for a surname, birth date, address, or photograph.
  • What a child reads, watches, and answers: which stories were opened, how far through they got, and how they did on the questions at the end. This is what makes the next story fit them.
  • Reading recordings, when a child reads aloud.Audio is sent for analysis to score pace and pronunciation, and the resulting scores are kept. The recording itself is not kept as a library of a child’s voice.
  • A per-device identifier so a child can pick up where they left off. It is generated on the device and is not linked to any advertising identifier.

Who else sees it

Stories, images, animations, and narration are generated by third-party AI providers, which means the prompt for a story is sent to them:

  • Google (Vertex AI and Gemini) for story text, illustrations, animation, translation, and speech analysis.
  • ElevenLabs for some character narration voices.
  • Amazon Web Services, where the application runs and where records and generated media are stored.

Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared with advertisers or data brokers.

Safety checks

Generated stories and images are screened by an automated moderation pass before a child can see them. Anything flagged is held back rather than published. Moderation decisions are recorded so that a pattern can be reviewed.

How long it is kept

Profiles, stories, and progress are kept while the account is open, because they are what the app is for: a child’s library and their progress through it. When an account is deleted, its profiles and their associated records are deleted with it.

Deleting an account

A parent can request deletion of their account and every child profile under it from Account settings. Deletion removes the parent account, the child profiles, and the stories and progress belonging to them.
